Without much fanfare, Samsung has announced US pricing and launch details for the Galaxy Tab 3 Android tablet family.
Starting with the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 specifications include a more powerful Exynos 1.5GHz dual-core processor and higher-resolution (1280 x 800) TFT display, Android 4.2, as well as a rear-facing 5.0-megapixel camera capable of 720p video capture. Storage is also doubled to 16GB, with extra space available through a microSD expansion slot and 1.5GB of RAM for applications and operating system functionality. Pricing for the Wi-Fi only 8.0 starts at $299.
The Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 features an Intel Z2560 dual-core processor at 1.6GHz, making it the first Intel-powered Android tablet to be offered for sale in the US and the same display resolution as the Tab 3 8.0. It also matches the 8.0 model on storage and camera features, with reduced RAM to 1GB. The larger model does include a built-in IR port, as well as Samsung’s WatchON TV recommendation service. Both Wi-Fi-only models will arrive in white and a dark brown color. Pre-orders start tomorrow morning through selected retailers.
AT&T has released the LTE/Wi-Fi version of the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 with sales starting last weekend for $399.99 outright, or $199.99 after pairing with a qualifying smartphone purchase in the Samsung Galaxy S 4, S 4 Active or Galaxy Note 2 under a new 2 year agreement. The LTE/Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is also slightly different from the Wi-Fi only version in that it runs Android 4.1.
