The intrepid modders of XDA-Developers have discovered that the unlock codes for the European and recently released US GSM variants of Samsung Galaxy S are stored on the device itself, with a workflow now available for unlocking. Another result of the discovery centers on the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant, which has been confirmed to feature support for AT&T’s 3G network after unlocking and using an AT&T SIM, although not vice versa when unlocking an AT&T Samsung Captivate for use on T-Mobile.
The workflow does not require rooting the device, though too many failed unlocking attempts will result in “freezing†the device, thus requiring a separate ‘â€unfreeze†code. Instructions are also available for relocking the device for warranty claims.
