Following up, internal Sprint system screenshots have confirmed that the long awaited Android Froyo update for the Samsung Epic 4G will be pushed out beginning on Sunday December 26th and be available until the end of the month.
The update contains the following enhancements:
Eclair to Froyo update (version 2.2.1)
Ability to install applications to the external memory
Improved Bluetooth device support
Bluetooth Voice Dialing
Flash Player 10.1
GPS Enhancements
If you currently have Root access on the Epic and are using the free WiFi Tether app, does applying the 2.2 update require you to re-Root the device?
Any update that replaces the kernel typically will require re-rooting. You should not update the Epic 4G if you want to root, until an exploit is found in the new firmware that enables rooting.
Otherwise, if you update, you will likely lose the ability to root for the foreseeable future. Android 2.2.1 was specifically released to deter rooting.
