After seeing its profits in the high-end smartphone segment falling further due to increased competition, Samsung has announced the mid-range Galaxy A series as a way to regain marketshare in the mid-range segment.
The Galaxy A series will consist of two devices in the A3 and A5 which feature metallic bodyshells. Both phones are powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 16GB of internal storage and support for microSD cards up to 64GB, LTE support, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, and NFC radios along with additional sensors. The A5 and A3 also share 5-megapixel front-facing cameras. The A5 is the larger of the two phones with a 5-inch Full HD screen, 13-megapixel main camera, 2GB of RAM, and a 2,300mAh battery while the A3 features a 4.5-inch qHD display, 8-megapixel main camera, 1GB of RAM, and a 1,900mAh battery. There is currently no word on whether the line will be launched in the US.
