RIM has officially launched the App World service to developers and pre-registration for interested customers.
The service is intended to be its take on the unified application store concept pioneered by Apple, but initial oddities have caused some concern in regards to its perceived viability such as the requirement of a PayPal account to access App World and to make future purchases as well as the arbitrary pricing system used to give developers a baseline as to how much they can sell an application.
While the tiers can change at anytime, the current lowest minimum price an app can be sold for is $2.99, which would make applications more expensive than the average application on Android Marketplace or App Store, even before taking into account any transaction fees via PayPal which is mandatory.
The second issue is also the fact that RIM is not currently allowing applications to be installed on a memory card and is forcing internal memory installation for the time being.
