RIM has announced that its Locate service and developer application platform will now feature support for location triangulation via cellsite lock in the event that a GPS signal cannot be acquired by the device. According to RIM, the addition is meant to maintain access to location data without a GPS signal and will also be integrated into its Maps service. This will allow developers to develop location based services without the need for GPS access, despite cell site triangulation being less precise than a GPS lock.
