Gaming enthusiast hardware manufacturer Razer is best known for creating gaming hardware that focuses on the PC gaming enthusiast and budding pro gamer while branching out into other related ventures such as laptops and arcade sticks for fighting game enthusiasts looking to step up from the console controller. Now, the company is looking to take the same approach to gaming on the iPhone with a combination case and sliding controller in the Junglecat.
At first glance, the Junglecat with an iPhone 5/5S installed has more than a passing resemblance to another smartphone in the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, owing to the case design and sliding controller surface, however this controller does not include the touch-sensitive twin analog pads of the Play and makes do with the conventional directional pad and four face button layout with two bumper buttons common to many smartphone controllers now.
The Junglecat controller uses the Lightning Connector to interface with the iPhone and the controller also relies on Razer’s companion app to remap game controls along with another app for seeking out the best controller compatible games and will be the first commercial implementation of Apple’s new Game Controller Forwarding protocol for using the controller on other iOS devices with larger displays, such as the iPad. The controller is priced at $99.99 and is available now.
