Qualcomm has confirmed plans to ship its second dual-core Snapdragon chipset in the QSD8672 sometime in the fourth quarter of the year, with VP of Product Management Mark Frankel alluding to the first products developed around the new chipset being available by Christmas as a possibility.
The QSD8672 is the second dual-core Snapdragon chipset in Qualcomm’s lineup with a 1.5GHz clockspeed across both application cores along with other improvements designed to improve both performance and battery life compared to current generation single-core chipsets which underpin smart devices such as the EVO 4G, HD2 and Nexus One. Key features of the new chipset include individual voltage scaling for improved power management along with a smaller die for improved packaging.
