Qualcomm announced yesterday that their updated product roadmap will include introducing their first CMOS transceiver that will fully support the newly available 700 MHz spectrum. The new transceiver tagged as Qualcomm’s RTR6570 will not only include support in the 700 MHz band, but will also continue to support all other frequencies already established in the United States which include 850 MHz, 1700/2100 MHz, and 1900 MHz. Sampling will begin mid-2008 and consumers can expect the first devices capable of this support to emerge by early 2009.
Mobile providers such as Sprint and Verizon Wireless that already run Qualcomm’s Cell Site Modem technology for CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B base stations are already outfitted to run on the 700 MHz spectrum further streamlining its future adoption. With the auction for the 700 MHz spectrum in full swing, Qualcomm wants to be one of the first to offer full utilization of this frequency band enabling them to get a good head start of the creation of new technologies and offerings.
