While Qualcomm is best known for designing smartphone chipsets, they’re also developing a reputation for being at the forefront of quickly growing technologies such as automotive charging systems as well as development of automotive telematics technology used for connecting cars and trucks to the internet.
To that end, the technology conglomerate has announced a new deal with automaker Daimler to develop cars and trucks with cellular 3G/4G access along with building in Qualcomm’s Halo™ Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging system in future Daimler vehicles.
The announcement also heralds the debut of Qualcomm’s new Automotive Solutions division in order to develop the aforementioned technologies in the future along with the Technologies division, who are also developing the Wireless Power Transfer 2.0 high performance program for electric vehicles with Daimler as well as the second version of the WiPower wireless charging standard for in-vehicle wireless charging.
