Mobile Linux platform developer Purple Labs has announced in a press release that it has acquired the Mobile Phone Client Software arm of Openwave through a sale led by Openwave systems on June 27th in a combination cash/stock deal worth $30 million.
A conditional $2 million addition has also been offered when certain unlisted conditions are met during the transaction period along with the warranted purchase of 2% of Purple Labs common stock. Openwave Systems has also agreed to provide transition services to Purple Labs for up to six months, and will bear the first $2 million in expenses related to the services tendered.
Openwave Systems is known for the near ubiquitous Openwave Browser, which was one of the first mobile phone browsers available on the market and had since expanded to complete end to end software solutions for phone manufacturers and carriers.
