Following their announcement for the Japanese corporate market last year, Japanese mobile security development firm Mocana has announced that its VeloDAR end to end encryption platform for information security will be made available for the Panasonic BizPad line of corporate-focused of Android tablets, with two models to be offered in a 7-inch and 10-inch version.
The tablets themselves feature Honeycomb 3.2 and are heavily customized for corporate environments by featuring shock-, dust-, and water- resistance. Panasonic states that the 10-inch model can absorb drops from a height of 80cm, while the smaller 7-inch model handle 120cm drops. Both devices also feature an NFC reader, a replaceable battery, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, USB port, GPS, microSD slot, a ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core CPU, 1GB memory, 16GB flash, and infrared support.
The inclusion of VeloDAR support serves to better position the tablets as compelling options for businesses that need a rugged tablet that can be easily deployed in the field with the additional security of knowing sensitive data can be protected. While Android features its own built-in encryption options, the VeloDAR system goes further by providing an FIPS 140-2 level 1 certified encryption engine with AES-CBC 128-bit or AES-XTS 256 bit cryptography options for maximum security and integrity while ensuring that performance and battery life remain optimal in comparison to other offerings that trade performance for massive performance and battery life tradeoffs.
With the increasing adoption of Android tablets in the workplace spurred by consumers, Panasonic’s own tablets underscore an underserved market for those businesses that may be looking to transition from Windows CE-based tablets or those that may be looking to deploy a less expensive alternative to laptops without losing any important functionality necessary for day-to-day work. Panasonic has yet to announce pricing and availability for the BizPad tablets in the US.
