Nvidia’s Tegra roadmap has been leaked ahead of its formal announcement expected during Mobile World Congress next month.
Of note is the Spring release of its successor to the Tegra 2 chipset in the Tegra 2 3D, which will feature the T25 and AP25 cores supporting 3D image output at up to 1.2 GHz and additional support for the open source Chromium-based build of Chrome OS. The next Tegra release slated for sampling in the fourth quarter will be a quad-core processor at up to 1.5GHz with an ultra low power mode, Blu-Ray playback support, a threefold increase in graphics performance from Tegra 2, while the AP30 variant for phones will max out display resolution at 1366×768.
The goal for the new chipsets is to improve upon the previous series and allow manufacturers to build more powerful tablets and phones. The addition of Blu-Ray playback support on Tegra 3 also suggests a move towards consumer electronics hardware and improved power consumption on future portable Blu-Ray players.
