Until today, you had to use Ovi Suite on a PC to download maps for a country to your Nokia phone. Not anymore.
Within a day of Google rolling out offline map data support for Google Maps for Mobile on Android, Nokia has updated Ovi Maps to allow for on-device downloading of complete country map packs, which are free with compatible devices. Ovi Maps enables turn-by-turn navigation, with or without cellular data available, in over 120 devices on many Symbian phones.
The map data still is quite large, in exceed of a gigabyte in many countries. As such, Nokia encourages you to either use Wi-Fi to download the map data, or continue to use Ovi Suite on a PC (as well as Nokia’s Map Downloader app for Mac) to download the maps. You’ll also need to switch to the beta branch of Ovi Maps, as the feature is only available in the latest beta release (3.06), available on the Ovi Store.
In the United States, the Nokia 5230 is available as a T-Mobile prepaid phone, for around $99, and fully supports Ovi Maps. Most other Nokia unlocked NAM (North American Market) phones also support Ovi Maps.
This beta release has not been issued as of this report for the MeeGo/Maemo-powered N900.
This is very useful article for all mobile users. We always gives reference to our students about this blog.
