StraightTalk has quietly launched another Verizon-powered low-end smartphone, this one a variant of the Huawei Ascend first released with Sprint compatibility earlier this year in the Ascend II.
The Ascend Y features are nearly identical to the features found on the Sprint-powered version, with the only difference being compatibility with Verizon’s native network and a slightly downgraded camera . The phone is now available in select Walmart locations for $99.88 and has yet to be listed for sale online.
The Huawei Ascend Y features the following:
Android 2.3.6
3.5 inch touch screen at HVGA resolution
microSD card slot with support for 32GB cards
3.2 MP Camera with video capture
800MHz Processor
With Huawei and ZTE coming under fire by the federal government for alleged Chinese government ties that have lead to the perception of possible security threats, the recent activity for the manufacturer means that the company is attempting to address the concerns while continuing business as usual.
