Motorola Exploring Possible Sale, Divestment of Handset Division

According to a statement released by Motorola today, the company is exploring possibilities to sell or spin-off its struggling handset manufacturing division in order to appease shareholders that are growing increasingly dissatisfied with recent developments and shrinking profits from the division.

No final decision has been made on what to do with the business at this time and no word will be made available until the Board of Directors has made a decision. Motorola has been in the news as of late for lower than expected sales of its flagship handsets  and its battle with noted investor Carl Icahn for a seat on the current Board of Directors.
