In a report filed by the Associated Press this morning, Microsoft has announced that it has licensed both Adobe Reader software and the Flash Lite platform for future integration into Windows Mobile devices. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed by either party, and Microsoft has not stated a timetable for availability of either software on devices.
In a related development, Microsoft has announced the pending launch of the mobile version of its competing multimedia distribution platform Silverlight for Mobile 1.0 set for the second quarter of this year for Windows Mobile 6.
Silverlight is intended as a direct competitior to Adobe’s Flash, and is meant as a cross platform application to facilitate the distribution of rich media content such as video, audio, and websites with multimedia.
Nokia has also recently licensed the platform for the Series 60 operating system.
