MetroPCS has quietly begun to send text messages to customers warning that the service provider will discontinue its MetroConnect account service late next month by ending access later this month on the 23rd. The company has also quietly updated its FAQ on the service to reflect the impending discontinuation.
The service allowed customers to add funds for additional services, such as applications through its “@metro” storefront, “MetroMusic” music download/ringtone/ringback service and “TravelTalk” roaming service for those customers that found themselves outside of the home service area. MetroConnect was a product of the brand’s previous CDMA service that was heavily used by its customer base before the brand was purchased by T-Mobile in 2013 and was also integrated into its slate of early and current smartphones.
The service will be discontinued completely next month on March 22nd with any remaining MetroConnect funds being applied directly to the monthly account balance after that date. MetroConnect services purchased and stored on compatible devices before the aforementioned dates will still be available for access, but any device upgrades will end access to previously purchased MetroConnect services.
