Speaking during the Wells Fargo Securities 2010 Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, MetroPCS CFO J. Braxton Carter has hinted that the carrier is considering launching the Samsung Galaxy S in an LTE variant in an attempt to move to higher end devices with its LTE network, as evidenced with the launch of the Samsung Craft currently sold at $249.99, with future LTE phones priced around the aforementioned range.
Carter has also confirmed that the carrier is testing VoLTE over its LTE network with the testing currently underway into next year. Once testing is completed, commercial availability will not be considered until the end of 2011 into 2012, as the carrier is limited by the lack of spectrum necessary for its LTE deployment on the 1700 MHz band in select markets such as Philadelphia.
