Apple today released Mac OS X 10.5.6, the last major update to Mac OS X before Macworld Expo next month.
The update features improvements and other low-level changes, specifically focusing on mobility and AT&T 3G cards by improving throughput performance for cards, MobileMe now pushes information sent via Macs almost immediately, portables now have a separate Trackpad system preference option suite, Address Book syncing has been improved between the iPhone and other devices, AirPort performance has been improved, and Bluetooth functionality has been improved.
It should be noted that the update also disables iPhone detection in Device Firmware Update mode while connected via USB due to the new USB kernel extensions first found in the new aluminum MacBook builds of OS X, which also affects the ability to restore firmware on iPhone devices connected via USB.
The new USB extensions have been propagated across all systems thanks to the 10.5.6 update and also hinder jailbreaking over USB while leaving the functionality unaltered when using a dock, with Apple engineers confirming the issue as an intentional action made by Apple.
