Leap Wireless has recently confirmed that it has permanently closed 27 of its 269 Cricket Wireless corporate owned stores and laid off 180 people, cutting its total staff level down to 4,200 employees.
The company stated that the store closings and staff reduction are part of its standard retail operations, though the company previously reported a $64 million loss in its most recent financial results.
This also follows its recently announced joint venture with Pocket Communications to expand its presence in Texas, and Leap is also beginning to search for another company to partner with on a larger level, or a buyout altogether, provided it can find financing and a partner to do so.
MetroPCS previously conducted an attempted hostile takeover of Cricket in 2007 before being rebuffed by Leap, which then led to litigation and a landmark roaming agreement signed in 2008, ending the previous litigation.
I want an article about NFL, that kind of like a big deal
NFL Red Zone on Verizon isn’t that big of a deal news-wise, but if you want it, you got it.
