According to a follow-up report by Reuters, Sanyo has agreed to sell its troubled loss-leading mobile phone manufacturing division to Kyocera for an unconfirmed amount, though Kyocera has made an offer of $600 million for the unit.
The deal is expected to increase Kyocera’s profile in the US market, a market that Kyocera has had recent troubles of its own in as their phones are considered low-end budget models typically seen on regional carrier lineups and MVNO’s with firmware issues and rejection of models by major carriers for poor reliability and performance.
