We’re looking to grow the PhoneNews.com team. Here are the positions we are looking to fill.
Please note that unless specified, all our positions are freelance openings. Resumes sent by third parties are not entitled to any form of credit or compensation, unless otherwise noted and agreed previously in writing.
Finally, if you work in the industry, you must tell us when applying. Please let us know who you work for, even if on a part-time basis. We do not accept staff working for any of the Tier 1 nationwide carriers (AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, or T-Mobile) due to the potential conflict of interest.
Managing Editor, Mobile News (Silicon Valley)
We’re looking for someone to help spark a reboot in one of the oldest, longest-running members of the mobile media.
PhoneNews.com is looking for a new managing editor to help focus on balancing the day-to-day tasks of mobile news reporting, as well as manage content schedules and write articles that provide unique coverage and new details, not found anywhere else in the tech and mobile media verticals.
This is a freelance position, but the field is wide open… you can easily fill your day churning out quality, unique news and views that bring PhoneNews.com to the top of the mobile news segment.
This position differs from our Mobile News Reporter position (below) in that it includes all of the below (so read it carefully), but is a more senior position. Specifically, we’re looking for someone with significant tech media experience, that can take a leadership role in writing the very best mobile news and views out there.
To apply for a writing position, please send us an email at the contact page, and be sure to note which position you are applying for.
Mobile News Reporter (Silicon Valley)
PhoneNews.com continues to grow, and we’re looking to expand our team of writers. Specifically, we’re looking for a dedicated mobile news reporter in Silicon Valley.
Our team of freelance writers have two great things in common; a passion for mobile, and excellent writing capabilities. Those two things are what we’re looking for in each and every candidate.
Ask yourself the following questions:
* Can you write in proper English?
* Can you communicate a topic in a way that someone who’s tech savvy and someone else who’s not tech savvy can both understand? And stay interested?
* Do you know your WiMAX from your LTE? How about the differences between EVDO Rev 0 and Rev A? Explain the advantages and disadvantages of CDMA2000 and UMTS when compared to each other?
* Are you the first person everyone in your life comes to asking about phones?
* Are you the first person to strike up a conversation about phones, with no need for prompting?
If so, you’re probably ready to write for PhoneNews.com.
To apply for a writing position, please send us an email at the contact page, and be sure to note which position you are applying for.
A few quick gotchas:
* You can’t write for us if you work for a national wireless carrier. Exceptions apply of course, if you can get approval from your company to do so.
* Please attach your resume if you have one. We want to see all your experience. It does help, even if it’s not all wireless.
* If you do have media and/or mobile media experience, please let us know up front.
* If you are writing for other organizations currently, please disclose that.
* Citing SEO content in your initial email is a huge turn off. Please don’t put “SEO” in anything you send in your first email.
Mobile News Reporter (New York City Area)
Okay. We hate re-writing stuff. We hate duplicate content about as much as Google. We’re looking for the same great mobile news reporter, as we are in Silicon Valley, but in New York City.
Why NYC? A lot happens in mobile up there, but we don’t have staff there. We need someone to attend the events, cover them live, and make sure we have a seat at the table when asking the tough questions to executives. Some feel product announcements happen in NYC because all the hard-hitting journalists in the tech media aren’t there… so let’s change that.
All the terms/info/requirements for our Silicon Valley position, apply for this position. It’s freelance, you can’t work for a national carrier, yadda, yadda.

Device Review Positions (USA)
We’re looking for people to review devices for PhoneNews.com.
Stop. We’re looking for experienced people to write device reviews for PhoneNews.com. You must have a demonstrated, existing portfolio of device reviews… preferably from an existing media outlet, but individual reviews on your own blog will be considered if you can show a long-running tenure of device reviews.
This position is freelance, but you will be allowed to represent PhoneNews.com in gaining access to review units, and working with the editorial team on our review schedule and agenda. You can work from just about anywhere for this position, but we’re looking for someone located in the United States for logistical reasons.

Mobile News Reporter (London)
We’re looking to expand to Europe! And, we’re starting in England. We’re looking for someone that knows the mobile industry across the pond, as well as we do on our side of the pond.
You should have a command-level of experience and understanding in the mobile universe, especially with carriers local to the UK. We prefer someone located in or around the London area, which can attend events and cover them live on behalf of PhoneNews.com.
Like most of our positions, this is a freelance writing position. However, you will be able to create a broad range of articles that can fill your day reporting. Your work will be split between covering news that happens during the night in the United States, as well as a new section/sister-site to PhoneNews.com that is dedicated to European mobile news and content.
To apply for a writing position, please send us an email at the contact page, and be sure to note which position you are applying for.
Editor, Firmware & Software Updates
We’re working on something new in the field of software updates. We’re looking for someone to own this subject, and work on a new chapter in PhoneNews.com.
You should be familiar with how each major smartphone platform offers and maintains software updates, as well as a general knowledge of the US carrier software update process for devices. In other words, you should know that Google offers Nexus firmware updates directly, and that Verizon takes forever to update their devices.
This is a freelance position, your time will be divided between writing software-related news articles on PhoneNews.com, as well as working on an exciting new site that caters to this topic and segment. Over time, your work will focus more on our upcoming site, but initially on articles for PhoneNews.com.
