The iPhone Dev Team recently released the long awaited iPhone 3G unlock after promising to have it available before the end of 2008.
The caveat lost in all of the commotion is the fact that the software is still in a Beta state of development, and has the potential to completely fry the baseband on certain models, as confirmed by PhoneNews.com independent testing across two days. For those of you not familiar with iPhone hacking, that means that the phone can be rendered useless to make and receive calls, potentially permanently (also referred to as “bricking” an iPhone).
Therefore, we must caution and remind anyone and everyone that would like to unlock the device to use caution while performing the unlock and report any and all issues. The latest application update in version 0.9.5 is reported to work across a wider variety of models with no immediate concern.
Cool that’s useful and will proceed with caution
Yes don’t forget it’s still in beta.
I unlocked/jailbroke one successfully but still no outgoing calls with T-Mobile with 0.9.4. Haven’t tried .5 yet however.
