If you haven’t used the Mobile Edition of PhoneNews.com in awhile, it’s time to take another look. We’ve been working hard to make improvements to our mobile HTML version. As usual, you can find it by punching phonenews.com into most mobile browsers. Here’s a roundup of what we’ve done.

Major Speed Improvements

We’ve fine-tuned the site to run super speedy, all in 2D! Enjoy the faster speeds.

User Experience

The site is starting to be more consistent with PhoneNews.com’s desktop site. They’re still distinct experiences, but we’re getting them a little bit closer with this wave of changes.

In addition, we’ve removed contextual ads. We have tried to work hard with our contextual ad partners to make those type of ads a pain-free experience, and one that actually helps you check out cool products. Quite frankly, we haven’t been satisfied with how that worked out… so we pulled the plug. If we bring them back, we’re not going to do so unless/until they’re great.

Nokia N9 Support

If you have a Nokia N9, you’re in luck as you now get our mobile edition by default, just like your less-powerful other devices. And, just like everyone else, you can switch back to the desktop version if you want. You paid dearly for your device, you earned it!

Bug Fixes

A lot of people had problems turning the mobile theme off, if they wanted to use the desktop edition. We’ve worked hard to fix that once and for all.

Planning for the future

As we’ve mentioned quite a bit in the past, this is leading up to our upcoming app. iOS will ship be submitted to Apple first, but Android and Windows Phone will ship be submitted for approval shortly thereafter.
