Huawei has announced its major entry in the Android tablet race with the 7-inch MediaPad.
The MediaPad is notable for being the first Android tablet to ship with Android 3.2, which includes support for displays 10 inches and lower, as well as Qualcomm Snapdragon processors.
Technical specifications consist of a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, and two cameras, at 1.3 megapixel for the front camera and 5.0 megapixel for the rear respectively. Pricing and launch details have yet to be confirmed, with early projections at the beginning of September, which is the launch timeframe for Android 3.2.
It is expected that the MediaPad will compete with other devices widely expected to be upgraded to Android 3.2. Primarily, HTC’s Flyer and Dell’s Streak 7 tablets. It remains to be seen if Samsung will upgrade its Galaxy Tab seven-inch tablet to Android 3.2 as well. The original Galaxy Tab features a slower CPU than its other rivals, being the first mainstream seven-inch tablet to market.
