HP Down to TouchPad Refurbished Supplies, eBay Sale on the 11th

HP has announced that on December 11th, they will sell their final supplies of TouchPad units, via eBay. The company noted that these are all refurbished units.

HP will, however, match the fire sale pricing that made the TouchPad the number two tablet in the world, in terms of total sales. The 16 GB unit will sell for $99 and the 32 GB unit will sell for $149.

It is not clear yet if these units will match the one-year warranty for the TouchPad, or if they will carry a lesser warranty. HP has not, to-date sold refurbished units of the TouchPad directly. This will mark the first, and probably only sale of the TouchPad.

HP has continued their previous stance that the TouchPad will be discontinued once all sales are completed. No new units of the TouchPad will be produced, though HP has reportedly been using the TouchPad’s hardware as the basis for Windows 8 tablets. Windows 8 on ARM has preliminary requirements that closely match the TouchPad today.

The company has not yet made a final decision on if webOS development will continue. HP CEO Meg Whitman has indicated that HP would like to have multiple platforms (Windows 8 and some other platform) in its product line simultaneously, but has also said such arrangements may involve selling webOS, licensing webOS from a new owner, or dumping webOS for an alternative platform (such as Google’s Android).
