Google has announced that its Voice service will be MMS enabled in the near future, with Sprint customers being the first to take advantage of the new feature if using Google Voice. The service is being deployed on a limited trial basis via the Sprint network, with the goal of expanding compatibility to other carriers.
Google Voice users on Sprint will be able to send and receive MMS messages via Android smartphones and will be able to archive them via email as well, with the planned rollout of MMS display in the Google Voice mailbox in the future via the text to email forwarding option. With the addition of MMS support, Google Voice takes another significant step as a viable alternative to carrier messaging rates and monthly voice charges.
