The latest Firefox OS reference smartphone for developers to test, develop and port applications to the platform is now available for purchase after first being shipped to selected contributors and developers in the Firefox OS community. The Firefox Flame is the latest version of the Firefox OS reference hardware platform and features further updates to the operating system as well as additional sensors and hardware for application testing and porting along with development of new applications. The phone is now available for $170 online.
The Flame features a 4.5 inch touch display with a resolution of 480 x 854 and a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 with a unique adjustable system RAM toggle from 256MB to 1GB, with 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded with the microSD slot, up to 32GB. The dual SIM handset also features a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front facing camera on the front. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC connectivity are also built into the phone as well as an FM radio.
