Following up our story on the lack of Android Honeycomb 3.2 for the T-Mobile Dell Streak, Dell executives have quietly confirmed that it is suspending mobile development in the short-term with no timeframe on when it will resume operations. The suspension affects new products that were being developed with Android and Windows Phone 7 to follow up its previous products in the Dell Streak  and the Dell Venue series of smartphones as well as current devices.
While the specific reasons are unclear, sales data for the Streak and Venue series suggests that both lines were much less successful than Dell’s own projections. Faced with the prospect of even further losses and decreasing returns on investments, the company has decided to cancel all mobile development until it can make the necessary internal changes to ensure success in the highly competitive market.
Dell’s current product in the Venue Pro will continue to be supported, with both the unlocked and T-Mobile versions slated to receive the Mango update within the next two weeks, but the suspension will affect Android powered Venue devices, with those devices being abandoned in terms of short and long-term support.
Update – Dell Director of Global Consumer PR Matthew Hutchison has responded to the report with the following statement provided to PhoneNews.com:
“We remain committed to expanding our reach beyond PCs with a targeted set of tablets and smartphones. While we cannot comment on future roadmaps at this time, I can confirm that the speculative nature of the article is inaccurate.â€

Dells sales are NOT due to the product, but the complete lack of a sales strategy that was worth a damn. They ONLY sold them at their online store. Not at Tmobile stores, not at AT&T stores, not at independent stores, and not at Best Buy. ONLY on thier website and then they didn’t advertise it.. and they are surprised at the low sales numbers.. WOW just WOW.. the whole mobility dept has to be run by pointy haired bosses. So instead, if the Dell Venue Pro is any indiciation, instead of investing in advertising and a new sales strategy for thier new phones, they kill what was to be one of the best phones on the market (The Wrigley..). I say this as a Dell Venue Pro owner that has bought 2 others for my family and know of at least 5 others that I have shown my phone that went to buy it online.. ONCE THEY KNEW ABOUT IT !!! UGH !!! What a INEPT company.
I agree 100%. I have the Dell Streak which actually is a very good devise. But no marketing and support from the carriers, it doomed to fail. Maybe Dell should learn one or two pages from Apple’s marketing and support departments.
Wow, so Dell is willing to say that PhoneNews.com is “inaccurate” in its “speculation”, but won’t say what is wrong about what PhoneNews.com said… and won’t say what the real story is.
Yeah, I trust the article more than Dell’s refutation.
