Following months of leaks, Dell has officially announced the forthcoming launch of its first Android-based MID in the Streak, being formerly known as the Mini 5. Dell has also taken it upon themselves to market the device not as a conventional smartphone, but as a fully fledged tablet.
The tablet features a 5.0 inch capacitive touch display, Android 1.6 with a future update to 2.2 later this year, a 1GHz Snapdragon chipset, 5.0 megapixel cam camera with HD video recording and flash, 16GB of built-in memory with a microSDHC slot with support for 32GB cards and custom user interface.
The rest of the featureset consists of triband HSPA (Europe/US), quadband GSM/EDGE, Wi-Fi radio, GPS support via built-in transceiver and A-GPS, Bluetooth with stereo audio support and 3.5mm headphone jack.
The device will first be launched in the UK as a timed exclusive with carrier O2, with an ambiguous summer timeframe launch for the US.
