Walmart is offering the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus GT-P6210 for $249.99, with free shipping to home, or to any Walmart store.
The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is one of the most powerful seven-inch tablets on the market today. It is vastly more powerful than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, which is a slower version of the 7.0 Plus. The Galaxy Tab 2 was built off of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, to better compete with lower-cost tablets like Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus’s markdown comes as the tablet has struggled to find a place in a crowded offering. Despite being the fastest, the tablet’s high MSRP of $399 put it in direct competition with Apple’s iPad 2, which continues in its popularity. The Galaxy Tab 2 became Samsung’s go-to tablet for low-cost and seven-inch markets, leaving the 7.0 Plus’s performance largely untouted in the world’s largest tablet markets.
While Samsung has committed to an Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) upgrade for the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, the world’s largest Android device manufacturer has yet to ship the upgrade for the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. This despite the newer-and-slower Galaxy Tab 2 shipping with Android 4.0 pre-installed. Samsung has apparently put the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus at the back of the bus when it comes to the ICS upgrade.
With other manufacturers backing away from even modern Android upgrades that were promised, consumers may want to be wary. However, it is much more likely Samsung will ship Android 4.0 for this tablet, being the most powerful offering in the seven-inch category to-date.
