Right now, Best Buy has the Samsung A107 AT&T prepaid GoPhone on a fire sale for $2.99. Buyers can pick up in-store to avoid shipping. No maximum orders appear to be in place, though we suggest purchasing no more than five to fly under Best Buy’s somewhat-reliable radar.
As of this posting, the phone is in-stock at most stores, but we urge buyers to order online and pick-up in-store, as that ensures you a unit. These may sell out quickly in urban areas.
It’s a GSM flip phone, and we suspect at PhoneNews.com that it is in preparation for AT&T switching all GoPhone devices to a minimum requirement of UMTS. AT&T is preparing to put steps into place that will help them wind down GSM nationally, to prepare for reallocating GSM spectrum for LTE, and relying on UMTS/HSPA+ as their bridge between the two technologies.
This is a basic prepaid GoPhone, but can also function as a backup phone. And, it will function on Straight Talk’s new AT&T-compatible SIM-only plan.
