RadioShack.com is offering the RIM BlackBerry PlayBook, with the 16GB model starting at $199.99.
Adding coupon code SALE takes $20 off the price, bringing the total to $179.99. Tax and shipping may apply depending on location, and availability of ship-to-store.
RIM recently released version 2.0 of the BlackBerry PlayBook operating system, which augments the PlayBook with dedicated email and messaging clients previously only offered on BlackBerry smartphones. PlayBook OS 2.0 will also form the basis for BlackBerry X, the next-generation operating system set to launch late this year. RIM stated earlier this week that 44% of PlayBook units sold to-date have already been upgraded to PlayBook OS 2.0.
While RIM has struggled to sell PlayBooks, the release of PlayBook OS 2.0 addressed most of the widespread criticisms of the device. Radio Shack avoided much of the retail troubles of competitors like Best Buy, by choosing to sell tablets exclusively online, and via drop-ship orders which customers could place in retail stores.
