Target is offering a $40 Gift Card with the purchase of any iPod touch. When combined with a 10% off coupon, the total price comes down to around $139, factoring in the gift card.
It is one of the lowest prices we have ever seen for a new, current-generation iPod touch from an Apple-authorized retailer. iPod touch typically maintains a strict price control, rarely falling below the $199 price-point for any significant amount.
The one exception that we typically see is Black Friday, however, these prices are below most Black Friday pricing that we saw for the 8GB iPod touch. While not as substantial, this deal can also be used on 32GB and 64GB iPod touch models.
We do caution readers to take advantage of this deal early. Some Target stores this morning are already reporting low supplies on some iPod touch models, having not been sufficiently restocked in recent weeks.
The iPod touch fourth-generation is now available in black and white colors. Combined with iTunes In The Cloud, the 8GB iPod touch also can access entire iTunes music libraries remotely, without requiring the smaller-size to be consumed with music. Many speculated that this combination constitutes the iPod touch “Air” that Apple was rumored to offer, which lacked significant flash storage, relying instead on app and iCloud-based storage online to access data via Wi-Fi.
Unlike previous generations, the fourth-generation 8GB iPod touch is otherwise identical to the 32GB and 64GB variants. The current iPod touch was launched in September, 2010. This makes the current iPod touch’s lifecycle far longer than previous generations, which averaged a little under one year of lifespan.
It is suspected that Apple’s next iPod touch will feature an Apple A5 processor, and possibly a GPS chipset, to answer Samsung’s Galaxy Player. However, at $139, the price point would still be competitive compared to new models, which are not likely to be discounted.
