Cricket has launched the Huawei Ascend midrange Android device as well as Sprint data roaming.
The Ascend features Android 2.1 with future updates to Android Froyo and Gingerbread planned as well as a 3.5 inch HVGA capacitive touch display, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth with stereo audio support, 3.2 megapixel camera with video capture and Wi-Fi radio.
Pricing is set at $149.99, with an additional $20 online discount bringing the total to $129.99.
In related news, Cricket has also rolled out Sprint data roaming, with the first phones able to take advantage of the expanded coverage in the BlackBerry Curve 8530, Kyocera Zio and the aforementioned Ascend, with more devices to be added in the future.
I am looking at purchasing the huawei ascend drois 2.1 from cricket. Will I be able to download the upcoming 2.2 version to that phone, or will i have to wait for the 2.2 version. thanks a bunch!!
An Android 2.2 update for the Huawei Ascend has not been announced nor released. While it is likely to be upgraded, due to being recently released, there are no guarantees when it comes to Android updates.
Huawei is new to Android devices, and it remains unclear how committed they are to long Android device lifecycles.
