Following up, Clearwire has also announced that it has set this Fall for the commencement of its LTE trials and simultaneous WiMax/LTE network operation trial in Arizona. The trial will then continue into 2011, which will test the frequency and time division variants of LTE on the same 2.5GHz spectrum currently licensed for WiMax, as well as simultaneous operation of both WiMax and LTE networks on the same Samsung base station platform currently deployed by Clearwire for WiMax.
Clearwire has also re-emphasized its commitment to its current WiMax buildout, following previous comments made by Clearwire executives weighing options to transition to LTE after its agreement with Intel expires next November, which would allow it to either remain with its current WiMax deployment, or begin its heavily speculated move to LTE.
Because of the scope of the trials, companies such as Beceem and Huawei will also be involved in the trials providing assistance with hardware and network compatibility, with the ultimate goal of discovering the best methods to develop multi-mode hardware for consumers to use on mixed mode WiMax/LTE networks.
Can we stay posted on the trials and further expansion of the current standard? There havent been many WiMax markets lately
