During CES, Cisco is expected to roll-out an IPTV solution to compete with Roku and Apple TV devices. The  technology will have the power necessary to stream HD content over a local area network via WiFi as well as sourcing directly from the internet through an on screen interface. But the idea is not just to complete with internet streaming devices, it is to directly work with cable television providers to offer services through the television as a possible replacement for set top boxes.
As consumers access more online content, cable providers are interested in finding a hybrid television that allows them to offer television right alongside internet video content. Perhaps a viewer might “change channels” from watching a Hulu or Youtube video to watching CNN live with the expected IPTV technology. Cisco has a dedicated page demonstrating the concept with a video montage
