The ChevronWP7 dev team has come out of hibernation to announce that its ChevronWP7 unlock will return as a paid service with Microsoft’s approval after months of negotiation with the Windows Phone team. Earlier this year, the team gained prominent media attention for developing the first device unlocking tool for Windows Phone 7 which allowed for homebrew development without having to take the official and more expensive development route.
Microsoft took notice of this and initially fought against it before coming to its senses and deciding to work with the team to develop an improved unlocking tool that would increase functionality without risking device damage or increasing the likelihood of exploits. No immediate word on a launch timeframe was given.
