We previously broke Spectec’s earlier release date for the SDW-823… the world’s first microSD Wi-Fi adapter. That date came and went last year with nothing from the company. When PhoneNews.com asked them again when to expect the SDW-823, we were prepared to take any date with a added skepticism (as usual, we can only relay what a company says… if they’re unreliable, what they say is going to be unreliable).
The SDW-823 will (eventually) enable devices such as the original HTC Touch to utilize Wi-Fi, in addition to their existing cellular and/or Bluetooth access.
But, Spectec surprised us, they said that they had no plans to give any release date, until the item was on its way to vendors to ship. Spectec says that they’ve learned their lesson, and apologizes for giving incorrect release dates previously.
Spectec also had on display their first Mobile WiMAX chipset, working in a “live demo” on a Windows XP laptop. Read more for photos of the Spectec booth, their “WiMAX demo”, and the SDW-823.
