Broadcom has announced new low-cost chipsets that are currently sampling to selected device manufacturers that it claims will drive down costs for integrating LTE in smartphones, with pricing being driven below the $300 level according to its own estimates. The new M320 and M340 system-on-chip designs respectively bundle dual- and quad-core processors with 150Mbps LTE radios and are already compatible with Android 4.4 KitKat. The chipsets also include support for VoLTE and HD Voice support; high-definition display support with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Smart, NFC, and location technologies. No word was given on when the first devices with the new chipsets would be available or when the chipsets would be available to manufacturers for integration.
