Boost Mobile has begun to send text messages to customers confirming that it will increase pay per use rates on voice, text and data access at the same time that it increases the monthly rate for new customers  that choose to purchase Android smartphones next month on October 6th. Boost Mobile will launch the Samsung Transform Ultra one day later on the 7th, with the monthly unlimited plan going up by $5 to $55 monthly with the Shrinkage plan being modified to reflect the increased monthly rate.
Calls will go from 10 cents per minute to 20 cents along with text messages. Mobile web access will increase 15 cents, from 35 to 50 cents per day and closes the unlimited data loophole that has existed since the beginning of the offering in 2009. The rate increase will apply to new customers while current customers will remain grandfathered at the old rates until accounts go inactive or plans are changed to monthly or daily unlimited service.
I have been a loyal user of boost phones for years. I am on the unlimited plan and I was lead to believe that after 6 months, my monthly bill would drop $5. If this is not the case, would that not be breach of contract? Is this increase going to happen to the loyal cell phone users that are under contract? I feel that if the pay-as-you-go users have the increase, then the contract users should get it too
It is not a breach of CONTRACT because you never signed one. Boost is famous because of the non-contract option. They can change their prices however they like.
@kitchen – I think the article said that everyone with a current unlimited monthly would be grandfathered in. In other words, you’ll keep your plan as is. Also, notice that the writer kind of hints at these raised fees only applying to the new Androids boost is putting. It’s unclear as to whether or not this is with all phones and all plans.
