AT&T has launched the TerreStar satellite phone service and Genus device for its business and government customers needing access to mobile service outside of conventional coverage in the US, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Pricing for service is set at $25 per month plus 65 cents per minute of voice service, 40 cents per message and $5 per megabyte of data access.
The Genus device will run $799.99 and feature quadband GSM/EDGE and dual-band UMTS/HSDPA support, a 2.6-inch landscape touchscreen display at QVGA resolution, QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi radio, Bluetooth, and GPS support along with Windows Mobile 6.5.3. The TerreStar service was previously announced in December of last year for a 1st quarter 2010 launch, but was delayed until now.
