As expected, AT&T has launched the Samsung Captivate high-end Android smart device based off of the Galaxy S reference hardware.
The Captivate is identical to the European version with the internally developed and manufactured ARM Cortex-based 1GHz Hummingbird application processor and 4 inch wide Super AMOLED capacitive touch display along with a 5.0 megapixel camera with autofocus and 720p video capture. The rest of the specifications include Bluetooth with stereo audio support, microSDHC expansion slot with 16GB of internal memory along with Android 2.1.
Pricing through AT&T is set at $199.99 with no rebates required after new 2 year agreement and data plan, while LetsTalk is offering the device for free after the same terms with waived activation.
Because of the Network differences and Customer Support. The Vibrant is the best choice, because on average it supports 4.4Mbps download speeds and 1Mbps upload. In contrast ATT’s phone barely reaches 1Mbps download and 0.5 upload.
Costwise, if you Cross 2GB of traffic (and this easily happens with high end phones) ATT offerings are just ridiculous and foolish. So unless you want to be ripped off, you better try out the Vibrant for 70 dollars a month you get more than what ATT offers for 100!
