In response to the pressure from recent changes made by T-Mobile and Verizon, AT&T has cut prices even further on its Mobile Share Value Plans for individual users as well as those that need an additional line.
Starting on Sunday March 9th, the rate for 1 line under Mobile Share Value will be cut from the current $80 monthly rate ($55 access charge + $25 smartphone fee) to a more reasonable $40 access fee with the $25 smartphone fee, bringing the total to $65 monthly before additional taxes and fees. AT&T has provided a chart found further below visualizing the changes.
Another major change the addition of more data, as the new 1-2 line plan will now include 2GB of monthly data access, instead of the 1GB rate of the old plan and adding a second line bringing the total to $90 monthly, a savings of $15 over the old rates. The old 1GB plan will be officially axed tomorrow and those on that plan will need to call or go to an AT&T retail store to make the necessary changes to take advantage of the new lower rates and increased data allowance, as AT&T will not automatically move customers onto the reconfigured plan.
As an additional incentive to move to the newly reconfigured plans, the company will let any existing customers who move to the new 2GB plan switch over to the lower $25-per-month smartphone device fee from the older Mobile Share access fee of $40, even if you are in the middle of a service contract for the last smartphone you bought with AT&T, you can go from paying $40 per smartphone down to $25 by calling in or going to a location starting tomorrow, potentially saving up to $30 a month over previous rates. The caveat with the offer is that the rate will increase if the 2 year agreement is renewed instead of moving to AT&T Next or purchasing a device outright for a future upgrade.
Finally, AT&T is now offering the above customers additional perks under Mobile Share Value plans, such as 50GB of cloud storage access through AT&T Locker and included unlimited international messaging from the US, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands (190 countries for text messaging, 120 for picture/video messages). AT&T is also stressing the Mobile Share Family plan slate for those that need 3 or more lines, as these changes are only applicable for 1 or two lines.
