AT&T Wireless today launched the mMode Music Store. Operating in a similar manner to Apple’s iTunes Music Store, the site serves full length songs and albums to your PC. Songs can be sampled online, or on a Series 60 or MS Smartphone.
The store does not support transferring purchased music to your phone. Songs can only be played on devices supporting Microsoft’s DRM V9, which requires Windows Media Player 9 or a compatible device. In addition, despite Windows Media Player 9 being available for Macintosh, AT&T notes that the DRM implementation is not compatible at this time on Mac.
In order to avoid confusion, it’s important to note that music cannot be downloaded to any AT&T phone, only certain smartphones (noted above) can sample clips. Pricing is identical to the iTunes Music Store at $.99 per song and $9.99 per album.
