ARM has announced its latest line of system-on-a-chip for midrange tablets and smartphones in the Cortex A-17 range. The A17 processor is matched with ARM’s Mali-T720 GPU for improved graphics performance over the A9 series and the ARM Mali-V500 video processor for powering 4K display output along with OpenGL ES 3.0 support and optimizations for low-end Android devices.
The new system-on-a-chip will be sampling late this year and should reach consumer devices by 2015. The 28nm process SoC is also expected to be built into Smart TVs and other devices besides the usual smartphones and tablets.
