Apple has decided to roll out all of its major updates and the launch of iCloud today, with iOS5 receiving the bulk of the attention. However, what should not be discounted is the roll out of OS X 10.7.2 which is required for full iCloud compatibility and iTunes 10.5 for iOS 5.
OS X 10.7.2 includes support for Apple’s iCloud service, which stores users’ email, calendars, contacts, Safari bookmarks, and Safari Reading List while automatically pushing them to all iOS devices owned by the user. iCloud can also be accessed on Apple computers, in addition to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch with the goal help keep user data in sync across devices. iPhone users should update iTunes to 10.5, OS X to 10.7.2, and the iPhone to iOS 5 in order to get the most out of each respective update and iCloud.
One major caveat of today’s update rollout is the increasing incidence of failed iOS 5 updates for iOS device owners, with many users reporting failed updates after initial download, multiple device restores needed to apply the updates and an increasing number of users suffering bricked devices as a result of the failed updates and device restoration. Apple has yet to officially respond to those reports.
I had error messages twice, but closed Outlook on Windows 7 and it went through… only to find out that my apps were all deleted. I could sync them back, but the organization was gone. Ugh.
My iPod touch 4G will not update to iOS 5. Not jailbroken. Still investigating.
A little trick… Creat a new user account on your Mac or PC, log in under the new user account, and open iTunes, and then upgrade the IOS when logged in on that account. It will set your phone up as a new phone, but when you log back in on your regular user account, click on the apps and what not that you want to sync to your phone as normal in ITunes. Worked for me. 😉
Failed to upgrade, failed to restore twice with messages that iTunes had been interrupted
Basically a wasted 1 and 1/2 hours so far. Will wait until the weekend to try again when I have more time and patience.
Update of Iphone went well, but will not link to ICloud. WiFi connection is good. Account is ok.
