Without much fanfare, Apple has announced the first storage increase to its iPad line this morning with the forthcoming launch of the 128GB version of the 4th generation iPad with Retina display. Apple is aiming this version of the iPad directly to those with specific applications, such as those who routinely produce audio and video as well as those that regularly interact with large, high-resolution AutoCAD files.
The iPad is otherwise unchanged aside from the increase in storage, though a premium for the increase will be applied, as the Wi-Fi only version will be available for $799 and the Wi-Fi/Cellular version will be sold for $929.
With Apple increasing iPad storage capacity now, this may mean that Apple is preparing to increase storage capacity across the entire lineup when the expected model upgrades to the iPhone, iPod Touch iPad and iPad mini are released later this year, which would address a constant complaint from customers regarding a lack of storage space compared to alternative devices.
