Reports have surfaced that Apple has invited select members of the press to a press conference on Friday, following the saga involving the iPhone 4 and its longstanding reception issues.
The conference also follows a week that saw Consumer Reports retract its recommendation of the device after the magazine completed its own battery of tests confirming repeated loss of signal when the device is held with the left hand, weeks after it initially reported that the issues with reception were overstated.
To add further fuel for the press conference, reports have been surfacing today regarding customers receiving iPhone 4 units with revised hardware that have fixed the reception issue as well as drastically improved voice and data access and an inability to reproduce the left handed signal loss issue, while others with multiple replacements report the same issues found in previous units.
Apple has yet to confirm that it is shipping revised hardware to Apple Stores in order to address customer complaints and is expected to fully address the issue during the conference, with the most popular suggestion to solve the issue being that the company offer complimentary bumper cases to customers for units still affected.
